College Testing

Your Roadmap to College Readiness

Standardized testing is one part of the college admissions process, and we’re here to help students approach it with purpose and preparation. Marmion offers several testing opportunities throughout high school, including the PreACT, PSAT8/9, PSAT/NMSQT, ACT, and SAT. Each test plays a different role depending on your grade level, and this page outlines what to expect and when.

PSAT [DATE] Freshmen

All freshmen take the PSAT. It’s a practice version of the SAT that gives students an early look at their strengths and areas for growth. The score report includes raw scores, percentile rankings, and college-readiness benchmarks to help guide future learning. There’s no need to register, all freshmen are automatically signed up.

    PreACT (Freshmen and Sophomore)

The PreACT is a practice ACT test all freshmen and sophomores take each spring. Students receive feedback from ACT that includes a projected ACT score (both composite and subject specific), an interest inventory, a STEM score, and item response with correct answers. PreACT scores are not sent to colleges. All freshmen and sophomores are automatically registered for the PreACT.

      PSAT NMSQT (Sophomores and Juniors)

The PSAT NMSQT is a practice SAT test that all sophomores and juniors take each fall. Students receive a score report with an individual test score, the number of questions answered correctly or incorrectly, and a college-readiness benchmark that highlights strengths and areas for improvement.

Each year, about 1.5 million students take the PSAT NMSQT. Juniors who score in the top 50,000 Section Index scores qualify for recognition in the National Merit Scholarship Program.

All sophomores and juniors are automatically registered for the PSAT NMSQT.

Fall ACT (Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors)

Marmion participates in the ACT District Testing program, giving students the chance to take the test each fall. District testing happens on a regular school day and is available only to Marmion students. These scores are official and can be sent to colleges.

Please note that the district test does not include the optional ACT writing section. Students who want to take the writing section need to register for a national test day held on Saturday at another location.

Students will receive an email with more information about costs and registration before the exam.

Spring ACT (Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors)

SAT School Day scores are official and can be sent to colleges.

Each fall, seniors and their families receive an email with important information about the test, including cost and registration details.

          Accommodations

Marmion students with a Student Support Plan and a diagnosed learning disability may qualify to test with accommodations on the ACT, SAT, and practice exams.

To request accommodations, contact Mrs. Lipp at clipp@marmion.org when registering for any ACT, SAT, or AP exam.

For exams where Marmion handles registration automatically, families of students with Support Plans will receive a questionnaire asking if they want to opt in for testing with accommodations.
