On January 17, 2025, eight new members of the Marmion Athletic Hall of Fame were honored at our annual induction ceremony. Our Hall of Fame recognizes Cadet athletes who achieved outstanding individual athletic accomplishments while also exemplifying the moral characteristics instilled in all members of the Marmion Brotherhood.
Eric Smith ’97 was a standout golfer at Marmion, earning four varsity letters. He was a 3-time First Team All-Suburban Catholic Conference, 18-time Dual Match Conference Winner, and 3-time Brother Leo Award (MVP) recipient. He won the Aurora City Tournament and the Suburban Catholic Conference Championship in 1994, 1995, and 1996. Eric earned a Division I scholarship to Northern Illinois University and achieved top national rankings in college golf. He currently works in medical sales and lives in Peoria with his family.
Ricky Del Toro ’02, a 3-year varsity letterman in soccer, was a 3-time All-Conference player, 2-time All-Sectional, and a 2-time All-Area selection for both the Beacon News and Chicago Sun-Times. In 2001, he was named SCC Player of the Year. He finished his high school career with 25 goals and 35 assists. Ricky played Division I soccer at IUPUI and was team captain for two years. He also coached soccer at Marmion before transitioning to a teaching career in the West Aurora School District. Ricky now serves as an assistant soccer coach at Aurora University and lives in Aurora with his wife and children.
Joel Del Toro ’04 was a 4-year varsity soccer letterman and holds Marmion’s record for most assists with 55 and second-most goals with 84. He was named First Team All-Suburban Catholic Conference all four years and SCC Player of the Year in his senior year. He was also named to the All-Area teams by the Beacon News, Kane County Chronicle, and Daily Herald, as well as the Daily Herald Player of the Year. Joel played collegiate soccer at Eastern Illinois University and scored game-winning goals in his first two college games. He currently works as a Regional Sales Director for AT&T and resides in Yorkville with his family.
Brad Warland ’12, David Thielen ’12, and Casey Smith ’12 were instrumental in the success of Marmion’s Bass Fishing Team, qualifying for the inaugural IHSA Bass Fishing State Finals in 2009 as the first all- freshman team. They won the sectional championship in 2011, and in the state finals, David Thielen led the team to its best finish ever, a 6th place. Brad Warland also competed on Marmion’s Wrestling and Drill teams and works in fisheries conservation. David Thielen participated in Marmion’s Football, Baseball, and Lacrosse teams and now owns his own dental practice in Phoenix. Casey Smith, also a member of the Swim and Tennis teams, went on to join Air Force ROTC and is now an instructor with the Maryland Air National Guard.
Jordan Glasgow ’15 was a three-year varsity letterman in both football and basketball at Marmion. In basketball, he was a 3-time All-Conference and 3-time All-Area selection, finishing 5th in all-time points, 4th in assists, and 1st in steals in Marmion history. In football, Jordan was a 3-time All-Conference and All-Area selection. He played college football at the University of Michigan, where he earned numerous honors, including the Roger Zatkoff Award for best linebacker. Jordan was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in 2020, where he was named to the All-Rookie Special Team and ranked 4th in Special Teams. He retired from the NFL in 2022 and is pursuing an MBA at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
Seth Groom ’18 set school records in the 200-meter, long jump, and triple jump during his three years on the varsity track team. He won the long and triple jump and placed second in the high jump at the Illinois State Track Meet in his senior year, helping Marmion secure the State Championship. He also served as the Commander of the Flannigan Rifles precision drill team. After high school, Seth continued his track career at the University of Iowa, though multiple injuries limited his participation. Despite these setbacks, he inspired his teammates during their victories at the Big Ten indoor and outdoor meets. Seth is now focused on other endeavors after his collegiate track career ended due to injury.
